The Bible And The Flat Earth, Solid Roof, And Unmoving Planet

In ancient times before the invention of satellite images, humans believed that the Earth was flat. We know now that the Earth is spherical. That is, except for those who believe NASA lied about the clear images. They still think the Earth is flat and shaped like a disk. I've seen some flat Earthers calling NASA "Satanic". But why is this?

The answer for this, is that they base their beliefs on the Bible, a book that teaches about a flat Earth all the way from Genesis to Revelation. As a result of this, the Flat Earth Society tries hard to prove that the Earth is flat. Funny how that works, because on the other hand, there are apologists for Judaism and Christianity both trying hard to prove that the Bible teaches that the Earth is spherical. No matter how clear the evidence, they still cling hard to their book. In the meantime, that same book is being used to cause harm. So, let's refute all of their claims by looking at the facts.

The first one to look at is in the book of Revelation. As John the Baptist was writing about some supposed visions he saw, he wrote one that's pretty interesting. In chapter 7 verse 1 of the book of Revelation, John wrote, "And after these things I saw four angels standing on the *four corners of the earth*, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree."

Clearly, there are no corners upon the Earth, as the Earth is spherical. Christian apologists will try to write it off as a "metaphor", that it wasn't actually describing the Earth as flat, that he was only seeing that in a dream...as a metaphor. Keep reading. Their "metaphor" defense can only get them so far before it fails.

The next one is another one that Christian apologists have tried to write off as being a "dream" or an "illusion". In chapter 4 of the Gospel of St. Matthew, there was a story about Satan tempting Jesus in the wilderness. We read in 4:8- "Again, the devil taketh him up unto an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;"

This one is much more obvious. So obvious, it's laughable when apologists try to write it off as a dream. Need it be explained? They were on an EXCEEDINGLY high mountain and saw ALL the kingdoms of the Earth. Not once did Jesus fall asleep. He was wide awake. The only way he could have seen all the kingdoms of the Earth in this moment, is if the Earth was flat, which the Bible WAS suggesting.

Apologists are so predictable in their desperate attempt to save the Bible when it makes a clear mistake it wouldn't surprise me if they try to say something like "there must not have been that many kingdoms. The other parts of the world must not have had kingdoms, and he saw the kingdoms that were there".

This is false. The Earth curves about 8 inches per mile. As a result, on a flat surface with your eyes 5 feet or so off the ground, the farthest you can see is 3 miles away. Now let's take Mount Everest, the tallest mountain on Earth. It's the mountain where you can see the farthest out, standing at about 29,029 feet. On top of Mount Everest, the horizon can be seen approximately 230 miles away, and that's at the largest distance. As we know, this Biblical story wasn't on Mount Everest. It was on another mountain, a shorter one.

But let's pretend it was on Mount Everest. During those days, there were countless kingdoms much further away than that, and they wouldn't have been able to be seen due to the curvature. It's clear that whoever wrote this story thought the Earth was flat and wrote this story long after the events were supposed to have played out.

Now that the New Testament is out of the way, there are apologists in both Judaism and Christianity that try to defend the Old Testament in this regard. We will now take a look at it and finally put a stop to the dogma.

To start with, let's take a look at Genesis, the very first book of the Bible. Genesis is accepted by the adherents of both Judaism and Christianity. On the first day, Yahweh created the Earth. Already, this conflicts with the scientific analysis, as the sun actually existed before the Earth. But that aside, we'll focus on the clear and obvious. Fast forward to the second day of creation in the Bible.

From the book of Genesis:
1:6- "And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters."

1:7- "And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so."

1:8- "And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day."

The firmament is the vault of the sky. The Hebrew word for firmament is "raqiya", which meant the visible vault of the sky. The word "raqiya" comes from the word "riqqua", which means beaten out or spread into shape. In the book of Job, we read this piece of information when Elihu was questioning Job. 37:18 says "Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?". The word "raqa" was present in the original text. From what we can see here, it's clear that the author of Genesis thought the sky was solid. Can't blame them for that. From the human eye, the sky does look solid. However, we know today that it's not, and it's an error that wouldn't be present in the Bible if it was inspired by an all-knowing creator.

The verse from the book of Job shows that the people of the time thought the sky was solid. Some may try to say "but Elihu said that, not God". Wrong. Reading through the Bible, we can see that Yahweh himself thought the sky was solid in the same way it was described in Genesis and Job.

In Isaiah 45:12, we read "I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded". To show that "heavens" is speaking about the solid firmament, let's go back to look at Genesis 1:14-1:17, which says "And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years. And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth."

According to that, Yahweh set the stars, the sun, and the moon IN the firmament, not outside of it. The author of Genesis thought these celestial bodies were smaller than they actually are. Now that we've got a picture of the Bible's description of the stars sitting inside a solid structure, we can now analyze what Yahweh said in Isaiah 45:12 "...I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens (shamayim), and all their host have I commanded..."

The word "shamayim" is the Hebrew word for the sky. This verse was talking about the sky (the heavens) and all their host (the moon, stars, and sun), painting the sky as a solid structure, with the stars underneath it. It's clear that the author of Isaiah was making things up and saying that Yahweh spoke it, as those words came from the perspective of a human, not an all-knowing creator.

Elsewhere, the Bible, the Old Testament, accepted by adherents of Judaism and Christianity, describes the Earth as flat, unmoving, and held up by pillars, all of which are false statements in the Bible.

We read in 1 Samuel 2:8- "He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: **for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them**."

I'm predicting that apologists will, of course, try to write this off as talking about mountains. This is laughable, but let's refute it anyway. It should be mentioned that the Bible, not once, says pillars in reference to mountains. Let's look at a few examples.

Genesis 7:20- "Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered." (It said the mountains were covered, not the pillars)

Joshua 11:20-"For it was of the LORD to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD commanded Moses." (Honorable mention on the cruel manipulative nature of Yahweh, which will be for another article)

Joshua 11:21- "And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities." (He cut them off from the mountains, not the pillars)

Now for the pillars:

Exodus 24:4- "And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel." (He built 12 pillars)

Exodus 27:17- "All the pillars round about the court shall be filleted with silver; their hooks shall be of silver, and their sockets of brass." (How he was supposed to construct the pillars)

From what we can see here, between mountains and pillars, the Bible is always clear on what it means. This leaves no room for any attempt to rationalize it. Therefore, the Bible literally means that the Earth is held up by pillars. One mistake renders the entire book invalid, and we've already caught several that prove that this book is not from an all-knowing creator. But, let's continue.

Job 9:5- "Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger." (Another example that the Bible says exactly what it means. Read the next verse to understand why I included this one, just in case apologists get desperate.)

Job 9:6- "Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble." (The Bible said pillars when it meant literal pillars.)

Job 9:7- "Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars." (Another clear error in this passage. The sun wouldn't need to be commanded, as it's already not moving. The Earth is moving, not the sun.)

1 Chronicles 16:30- "Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved." (A clear error, as the Earth is not "stable" in the sense that this verse depicts. The Earth does move. It is constantly rotating and revolving around the sun. Before apologists try to rationalize this clear error, the verse said "the world" to refer to the unmoving planet. It said "all the earth" to refer to the inhabitants.)

Psalm 93:1- "The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved." ("world" is referring, once again, to the planet. And this is, yet again, an error regarding the Earth. The Earth is constantly moving.)

Psalm 104:5- "Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be moved for ever." (This assumes that the Earth is sitting still on a structure, which is incorrect. Again, the Earth is moving in space.)

For the concluding verses, here are some words from the Yahweh himself in the book of Job:

38:1- "Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said," (This is the all-knowing Yahweh speaking in the verses following.)

38:2- "Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?"

38:3- "Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me."

38:4- "Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding." ("Foundations" referring to the pillars and the unmoving Earth.)

38:5- "Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?" (He apparently got dazed from that unsolicited anger and thought he constructed it flat.)

38:6- "Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;" (The foundations aren't anywhere, Yahweh. The Earth is moving at a consistent rate around the sun. I suppose on a flat Earth, you'd be the one who set the cornerstone. But considering that the Earth is spherical, you don't really exist, and it looks like it's time for your book to stop being used to cause harm.)

From what we can see here, the Bible has failed in authenticity, and it is certainly not an excuse to promote what shouldn't be promoted. For those who are caught up in Judaism or Christianity: I don't hate you as a person. Rather, I hate the religions in the Bible, and I hate what they are doing to people. Don't waste your time following this book. It is filled with clear errors that cannot come from an all-knowing creator. The Bible's teachings are nothing to be proud of, and its threat of eternal torture is invalid. Free yourself from it. Don't try to defend any of its teachings anymore.

For the rest of my audience: Remember the information in this article next time you see the Bible being used to cause harm. One mistake renders the entire book invalid, and several clear indisputable mistakes have been listed here. It holds no weight to reality.
